The article outlines the life and discusses the writings of the distinguished English
Renaissance poet John Donne (1872-1631) on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of his
birth. The characteristic features of his poetry are discussed and illustrated by presenting
a Donne’s poem in the English original and its Czech translations by three different
translators.
