Anotace: The aim of this study is to review already conducted research focusing on historical

development of Czech automotive industry. Keeping interdisciplinary interests in focus, the automotive
industry as a social phenomenon such as a symbol of leisure time, or as a symbol of cultural
inspiration is studied as well as a mode of transport and a technical product. The study reveals
that social context of automotive sector is rather marginalized in existing research material and
deserve deeper scientific attention.
