The paper titled From Chapbooks to Blank Verse: the Earliest Czech Reception of Shakespeare’s
Macbeth discusses a series of Czech translations of the play from the 1780s to the 1830, from
the first anonymous prose version in a chapbook of 1782 to the blank verse version staged
in 1838. It also illustrates the development of the Czech language and culture in the earliest
stage of the National Revival.
