Anotace: The contribution is devoted to the innovated National Education Program, which entered into force in Slovakia on

1. 9. 2015. We focus on the natural sciences of biology and chemistry.
Over the past ten years, pedagogical documents have been amended several times in Slovakia. The reform of education in
2008 was most prominent. In practice, its implementation has encountered a number of difficulties. Today, it can be said
that neither the reform of the school nor the teachers were sufficiently prepared and the shortcomings had to be „corrected“.
That is why the State Education Program was upgraded. The aim was to adapt pedagogical documents based on experiences
from schools. As a result, time-subsidized teaching hours in the curriculum and new educational standards were adjusted.
In the article we are writing about the starting points of the reform, describing changes in the curriculum, characterizing
the innovative educational standards of biology and chemistry subjects, and pointing out some problems in introducing
innovations into school practice.
