the EU and permanent staff members of the European institutions in Belgium and the children
from other member states are educated, reporting and discussing the history and the system of
education of these institutions. The European School provides 5 years of primary (equivalent to
the 1stgrade) and 7 years of secondary education (equivalent to the 2ndgrade 2 and secondary
education) completed by the school leaving exam. At the primary level of the European Schools
in Brussels and Luxembourg, the Czech language sections were established. At the secondary
level, Czech pupils are taught in the Czech language.
