Anotace: Edmond Rostand’s world famous play was inspired by an existing person, Savinien Cyrano

de Bergerac, a seventeenth-century playwright and novelist. He was one of the libertins who
opposed the dogmata and conventions of the period and were infl uenced by Epicureanism.
Cyrano de Bergerac’s writings are in the Baroque style, fi nding expression in burlesque and
illusionist art. His utopic novels Comical History of the States and Empires of the Moon and
Comical History of the States and Empires of the Sun have made him one of the predecessors
of modern science-fi ction.
