High chromium white cast irons are used
in applications such as the mining, grinding,
mineral handling and cement industries.
The effect of heat treatment on hardness
and abrasion resistance of white cast irons
Cr27 and Cr15Mo2 was investigated.
Specimens were austenitized at different
temperatures in the range 900 – 1200 °C
for 1 h, quenched in air and tempered at
200 – 700 °C for 2 h. Wear tests were carried
out using a pin-on-disc tribometer under dry
sliding conditions. The maximum of abrasion
resistance was obtained after quenching
1,150 °C / 1 h / air and tempering 500 °C / 2
